USI finishes road swing with 9-0 shutout

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team concluded a 10-game road swing to start the spring half of the season with a 9-0 shutout of Indiana University Southeast Saturday in New Albany, Indiana. USI, while was 8-2 on the road trip, rises to 11-2 overall in 2011-12.
 
The Screaming Eagles swept through the doubles matches with senior Diego Gimenez and junior Juan Quiroz at number two doubles and junior Ben Boesing and Roberto Flores at number three doubles posting 8-0 shutouts. Sophomore Santiago Lopez and freshman Michael Kuzaj rounded out the sweep of doubles play with an 8-2 win at number one.
 
In singles, Boesing, Kuzaj, and Flores led the way with straight-set 6-0, 6-0 victories at number three, four, and six. Quiorz and Lopes also won in straight sets at number one and two singles,  while Gimenez won at number five when IUS' Jimmy Nungester retired down one set.  
 
The Eagles open the home portion of the spring schedule Monday when they host Lindsey Wilson College.
 
Eagles fall to NGCSU, 6-3

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The USI men's tennis team lost a 6-3 decision at North Georgia College and State University March 9 in Dahlonega, Georgia.
 
NGCSU took command early by taking two of the three doubles matches. Sophomore Santiago Lopez and freshman Michael Kuzaj posted the only doubles win at number two, 8-5. The Screaming Eagles fate was sealed when they lost four of the six singles matches.
 
Lopez and Kuzaj were the only Eagles to get wins in singles, winning in straight sets at number three and five, respectively.
