USI opens spring with loss to ranked team

MURRAY, Ky.  – The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team opened the spring half of the 2011-12 season with a 6-3 loss to sixth-ranked Abilene Christian University at a neutral site in Murray, Kentucky. USI falls to 3-1 in 2011-12, while ACU rises to 2-0.
 
The Wildcats jumped out in front of the Screaming Eagles in doubles play, taking the first two matches, 8-5 and 8-6, respectively. USI juniors Ben Boesing and Roberto Flores salvaged number three doubles for the Eagles with an 8-5 victory.
 
In singles, ACU won at number one, four, and three to clinch the match and sealed the victory with a win at number two singles. Flores got USI on the scoreboard in singles with a straight set victory at number six singles, while freshman Michael Kuzaj posted a tie-breaker win at number five singles.
 
Kuzaj's win at number five was his first win as an Eagle since joining the team at the beginning of the semester.
 
USI resumes action on the road February 12 when it travels to Grand Valley State University for a region match. The Eagles are away from the USI Tennis Courts for the next month (nine matches) before hosting Lindsey Wilson College March 12.
