COLUMBUS, Ohio—The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team cruised to three Midwest Region victories Friday and Saturday, improving its record to 8-1 overall and 5-0 against regional opposition this season.
USI began its three-city trip by dropping Tiffin University, 8-1, Friday morning in Tiffin, Ohio. The Screaming Eagles returned later in the day to take down Cedarville University, 9-0, in Dayton, Ohio, before finishing their weekend with a 9-0 victory over host Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio.
After grabbing wins at number one and two doubles to take a 2-1 lead over Tiffin, the Eagles breezed to straight-set victories in all six singles matches to earn their first win of the weekend. USI won all three doubles matches against Cedarville before taking all six singles matches in straight sets.
The Eagles concluded the weekend by sweeping doubles play and taking five of six singles matches in straight sets in their win over Ohio Dominican.
Junior
Juan Quiroz led the Eagles with three wins at number one singles and two wins at number one doubles. He also posted a win at number two doubles.
Senior
Diego Gimenez, Quiroz's doubles partner, also had six wins on the weekend—two at number five singles and another at number three singles.
USI returns to action March 6 when it takes on Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida.
