USI gets on track with 7-2 win

GRANSVILLE, Mich.  – The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team posted its first win of the spring with a 7-2 region victory over Grand Valley State University in Grandville, Michigan. USI rises to 4-1 overall in 2011-12, while GVSU falls to 0-1 in its first dual match of the season.
 
The Screaming Eagles jumped out front early by sweeping the doubles matches. Sophomore Santiago Lopez and freshman Michael Kuzaj at number two doubles and juniors Rodrigo Flores and Ben Boesing at number three doubles put USI on the scoreboard with 8-3 victories.
 
Senior Diego Gimenez and junior Juan Quiroz completed the sweep with a 9-7 victory at number one doubles.
 
The Eagles secured the victory by winning four of the six singles matches. Lopez, Boesing, and Kuzaj posted straight set victories at number two, three and five, while junior Rodrigo Flores came from behind at number six to win in a tiebreaker.
 
USI resumes action on the road February 17 when it plays a neutral site match against Wayne State University in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Eagles are away from the USI Tennis Courts for the next eight matches before hosting Lindsey Wilson College March 12.
