EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team rolled to its second straight win with a 7-2 win over Saint Joseph's College Friday afternoon at the USI Tennis Courts. USI rises to 5-7 overall and 2-0 in the GLVC, while Saint Joseph's falls to 12-2 overall, 0-2 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles opened the match in dominating fashion, sweeping the three doubles matches. Junior
Logan Ackerman (Mt. Carmel, Illinois) and freshman
Stephanie Smith (Sellersburg, Indiana) led the way at number three doubles by posting an 8-0 shutout.
USI completed doubles play when senior
Michelle Girgenti (Greenwood, Indiana) and sophomore
Lindsey White (Batesville, Indiana) at number one doubles and sophomore Elllena Stumpf (Attendorn, Germany) and freshman Morgan Corquerille (Sellersburg, Indiana) at number two doubles won their matches with identical 8-3 scores.
The Eagles clinched the victory with four singles victories. Corquerill, Stumpf, Ackerman, and freshman
Alyssa Hoover (Greenwood, Indiana) posted USI wins in straight sets at three, four, five, and six singles, respectively.
USI continues its homestand Saturday morning when it hosts Northern Kentucky University at the USI Tennis Courts. Match time is 10 a.m. The Norse, who played at Kentucky Wesleyan College on Friday, entered this weekend's action with a 6-3 overall record, 1-0 GLVC.
