SAVANNAH, Ga. – The top-ranked University of Southern Indiana baseball team was shutout by Armstrong Atlantic State University, 11-0, Saturday afternoon in Savannah, Georgia. USI falls to 1-1, while AASU goes to 2-2.
The Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. AASU would go on to score two more runs in the fourth and sixth before blowing the game open with six tallies in the seventh.
USI senior right-hander
Taylor Dennis (Covington, Indiana) saw his 11-game winning streak snapped in taking the loss for the Eagles. Dennis went five innings, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks.
The only bright spot offensively for the Eagles was senior designated hitter
Tyler Choate (Carmi, Illinois). Choate collected two of USI's four hits, going two-for-two with a double and a walk.
Senior centerfielder
Justin Blinn (Vincennes, Indiana) had a two-out triple in the first inning, while freshman rightfielder
Brad Wannemuehler (Evansville, Indiana) had a single in the second to round out the scoreless offense for USI.
USI and AASU finish the three-game series Sunday at 10 a.m. (CST).
