EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team went over .500 in the GLVC with a 5-4 victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis. USI goes to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the GLVC, while UMSL falls to 1-10, 0-5 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles got on the winning track early with three straight victories in doubles. Sophomore Joseph Boesing (Floyds Knobs, Indiana) and freshman Diego Gimenez (Venezuela) won an 8-3 decision at number, while senior Nathan Sexton (Santee, CA) and sophomore Ben Hamm (Batesville, Indiana) won at number two 8-5. The Eagles completed the doubles sweep when freshmen Ben Roeser (Waynesville, Ohio) and Nathan Lattimer (Muncie, Indiana) won at number three, 8-2.
In the singles play, the Eagles clinched the win when Boesing won a three-set match, 6-1, 6-7 (5), and 6-4; and Roeser won at number five in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-0.
The Eagles conclude their six-match homestand with a GLVC match against Quincy University 10 a.m. Saturday at the USI Tennis Courts.
