USI men's tennis finishes fourth in GLVC

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team finished fourth in the GLVC Tournament after dropping the consolation match, 5-2, to Bellarmine University Saturday morning at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis, Missouri. USI was the sixth seed in the tournament, while Bellarine was the fourth seed.

The Screaming Eagles fell behind early by dropping two of the three doubles matches. Senior Nathan Sexton (Santee, California) and sophomore Ben Hamm (Batesville, Indiana) posted USI's first victory of the day with a tie-breaker victory at number two doubles, 9-8 (10-5).

USI sophomore Joseph Boesing (Floyds Knobs, Indiana)kept the Eagles in the match during singles play by winning in straight sets at number two. The Knights, however, clinched the match with victories at number three, four, and five singles.

The Eagles, who now await the possibility of a bid to the NCAA Divisiion II Tournmaent, finish the season 8-9 overall, while Bellarmine goes to 9-10 in 2008-09.
