ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team advanced to the consolation match of the GLVC Tournament after going 1-1 on day one at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis, MO. The sixth-seeded Screaming Eagles opened the tournament with a win over third-seeded Northern Kentucky University, 5-4, but lost in the semifinals to second-seeded Rockhurst University, 5-0.

In the tournament opening victory, USI was led by freshman Diego Gimenez (Venezuela). Gimenez combined with sophomore Joseph Boesing (Floyds Knobs, Indiana) to win at number one doubles, 8-5, and won at number one singles in straight sets. Gimenez, who was named All-GLVC, is 6-9 in singles and has combined with two different partners to go 12-4 in doubles.

USI led 2-1 after doubles when freshmen Ben Roeser (Waynesville, Ohio) and Nathan Lattimer (Muncie, Indiana) won at number three doubles, in a tie-breaker 9-8. The Eagles also needed three-set winners in singles by senior Nathan Sexton (Santee, California) at number three and sophomore Ben Hamm (Batesville, Indiana) at number four to clinch the victory.

USI will play fourth-seeded Bellarmine University for third place in the GLVC Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Bellarmine opened the tournament with a 5-2 win over the University of Indianapolis and lost in the semifinals to top-seeded Drury University, 5-4.
