USI gets back on track with win
Southern Indiana 6, Saint Joseph's 3
EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Southern Indiana women's tennis team got back on track with a 6-3 victory over Saint Joseph's College Friday afternoon at Tri-State Athletic Club. The win takes USI's record to 2-9 overall and 2-2 in the GLVC, while Saint Joseph's falls to 8-7, 0-3 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles jumped out to the early lead with a pair of doubles victories. Senior Reilly Ackerman (Mt. Carmel, IL) and sophomore Michelle Girgenti (Greenwood, Indiana) got USI on the scoreboard with a 9-7 win at number one, while junior Gretchen Cantwell (Vincennes, Indiana) and junior Katie Jo Clagg (Terre Haute, Indiana) gave USI a 2-1 lead after doubles with a 8-1 win at number two.
USI closed out the victory with four straight-set wins in singles by Girgenti, Cantwell, Clagg, and sophomore Jennie LaBonte (Indianapolis, Indiana).
The Eagles complete this weekend's action by hosting Lewis University at 1 p.m. Saturday. The match with West Alabama University, scheduled for Sunday, has been cancelled.
