GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis started the 2008-09 spring campaign with a 1-1 mark this week at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. The Screaming Eagles opened the campaign with a loss to Division III 18th-ranked DePauw University, 8-1, but bounced back to defeat Rose-Hulman University, 7-2.
The Eagles were led in the loss to DePauw by sophomore Joseph Boesing (Floyds Knobs, Indiana) and freshman Diego Gimenez (Venezuela) with their win at number one doubles, 8-4.
In the USI victory over Rose Hulman, the Eagles took the early lead by winning all three doubles. USI put the match away in the single with wins by senior Nathan Sexton (Santee, California) at number one; Gimenez at number two, sophomore Nicolas Gathercole (England) at number four, and freshman Nathan Lattimer (Muncie, Indiana) at number six.
USI is now idle until it goes south to Florida for spring break.
