EVANSVILLE, Ind. The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team lost a 6-3 decision to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Tuesday afternoon at the USI Tennis Courts. USI falls to 5-15 overall and 1-2 GLVC, while SIUE goes to 10-8 overall, 2-1 GLVC.
The Screaming Eagles trailed 2-1 after the doubles matches. Juniors Ryan McDaniel (Bargersville, Indiana) and Andrew McGuire (Greenwood, Indiana) posted USI's only victory in doubles with a 9-8 tie-breaker win at number two. USI won the tie-breaker 13-11.
USI missed picking up a second doubles win at number one when junior Christoph Burger(Germany) and sophomore Bodene Scott (Australia) lost a tie-breaker 7-3.
The Eagles tried to overcome the deficit in singles, but lost four of the six matches. Burger tied the match, 2-2, at number one singles with a straight set win (6-1, 6-4). Scott concluded the scoring the Eagles with a straight set win at number four singles (6-2, 6-2).
USI returns to action Thursday when it travels to Oakland City University for a 4 p.m. contest. The Eagles resume conference action Friday when they host Drury University at the USI Tennis Courts for a 2 p.m. contest.
