LOUISVILLE, Ky. The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team doubled its win total in one day with a 5-4 victory over Bellarmine University and an 8-1 win over Indiana University Southeast. USI raised its record to 4-11 overall with the wins.
The Screaming Eagles started their weekend with a nail-biter at Bellarmine. USI trailed 2-1 after the doubles play with junior Christoph Burger (Germany) and sophomore Bodene Scott (Australia) posting a 9-8 (7-3) tie-breaker win.
In the singles, USI won four of the six matches to claim the victory. Burger led the way with a straight set win at number one singles.
Scott, junior Andrew McGuire (Greenfield, Indiana), and sophomore Dustin Thomas (Corydon, Indiana) followed Burger with singles wins to clinched the victory.
Against IU Southeast, USI burst out of the gate with three wins in doubles play. The Eagles would go on to win five of the six singles matches for the 8-1 win.
Burger, Scott, and Thomas would win their second singles matches of the day, while junior Ryan McDaniel (Bargersville, Indiana) and sophomore Tim Alcorn (Newburgh, Indiana) got their first win of the day.
The Eagles finish their 11 match road swing by opening GLVC action Friday at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. USI concludes the road trip with a match Saturday at Quincy University.
