INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team struggled to start the 2006-07 spring season with a pair of neutral site losses. The Screaming Eagles lost to Ferris State University, 7-2, and to Grand Valley State University, 8-1, at the Indianapolis Southside Tennis Club Saturday and Sunday.
USI was led by junior Christoph Burger (Germany), who had a pair of wins at number one singles. Burger defeated Ferris State's Bryan Karazia, 6-1 and 6-2, Saturday and Grand Valley State's Adam Sandusky, 6-2 and 6-3, Sunday.
Juniors Ryan McDaniel (Bargersville, IN) and Andrew McGuire (Greenwood, Indiana) picked up USI's only doubles win Saturday when they defeated Ferris State's Karazia and Brian Anderson, 8-6.
USI resumes action February 24 against the University of Tennessee-Martin in the home opener at Advantage Courts and Fitness. Start time is 6 p.m.
