EVANSVILLE, Ind. The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis started the 2006-07 season with a victory, defeating Oakland City University, 8-1, Tuesday evening at the USI Tennis Courts. The win marks the first time USI has started the year with a win since 2003-04.
The Screaming Eagles started the evening by sweeping all three of the doubles matches. Junior Christoph Burger (Germany) and sophomore Bodene Scott (Australia) led the way with an 8-0 victory at number one doubles.
Burger continued his success at number one singles with a straight sets victory over OCU's Danko Aquirre, 6-0 and 6-1. Scott was nearly as successful at number three singles, winning 6-1 and 6-2, while sophomore Dustin Thomas (Corydon, Indiana) won at number six singles, 6-1 and 6-1.
The next action for the Eagles will be in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional in Indianapolis, Indiana. USI will conclude the fall dual match season in Martin, Tennessee, on September 30, playing the University of Tennessee-Martin and Lipscomb University.
