EVANSVILLE, Ind. The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis posted its first shutout of the year with a 9-0 defeat of Quincy University Saturday morning. The victory marked USI's first back-to-back wins of the year.
USI started the match by sweeping the doubles matches. Senior
Ryan Hughes(England) and freshman
Bodene Scott (Australia) at number one and junior
Ryan McDaniel (Bargersville, Indiana)) and freshman
Bryan Sulcer (Olney, Illinois) at number two posted 8-6 victories, while freshman
Nathan Moore (Santee, California) and sophomore
Andrew McGuire (Greenfield, Indiana) at number two won 8-3.
McGuire and Moore clinched the Eagles third victory of the year with victories at number three and four singles. McGuire won his match at number three, 6-1 and 6-0, while Moore made quick work at number four, 6-1 and 6-1.
The Eagles won all, but one of the singles matches in straight sets.
USI will await a coin-toss Monday to determine if it will make the GLVC Tournament April 21-22. The Eagles are tied with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and the University of Missouri-St. Louis at 2-3 in the West Division.
