EVANSVILLE, Ind. The University of Southern Indiana lost a pair to open the 2006 GLVC schedule this weekend. The Screaming Eagles lost on the road to Rockhurst University, 9-0, and to Drury University, 7-1.
At Rockhurst, the Hawks downed the Eagles in straight sets, except at number one singles. USI senior
Ryan Hughes (England) took Gareth Dowdell to a third set tie-breaker before losing 0-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5).
At Drury, the Panthers defeated the Eagles, 7-1. Hughes and freshman
Bodene Scott (Australia) picked up a victory in number one doubles, 8-5, to prevent the shutout.
The Eagles resume action at the USI Tennis Courts next week when they host Northern Kentucky University and the University of Indianapolis for non-conference matches. USI plays NKU Friday at 2 p.m. and Indianapolis Saturday at 10 a.m.
