Box Score
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana and the University of Missouri-Rolla were unable to continue its suspended baseball game from Saturday as rain and poor field conditions forced officials to call the contest and cancel Sunday's scheduled doubleheader.
USI (6-4, 3-3 GLVC) gets the win from the suspended game as it led, 5-0, when the game was called due to darkness on Saturday following the completion of the sixth inning.
Senior hurlerÂ
Nathan Arnold (Evansville, Indiana) picked up the victory after blanking the Miners on six hits in six innings of work. The result registers as a complete-game shutout for Arnold, who improves to 1-1 with the decision.
Offensively, USI got two RBIs from sophomore first basemanÂ
Josh Malone (Chesterton, Indiana) and freshman outfielderÂ
Greg Horn (Plainfield, Indiana). Junior outfielderÂ
Hunter Slade (Newburgh, Indiana) also had an RBI in the victory.
The Screaming Eagles did most of their damage in the bottom of the first inning, where they registered four runs off five hits. All nine batters came to the plate for USI in the first inning.
With the setback, UM-Rolla falls to 4-8 on the season and 2-3 in the GLVC. Stephen Hiatt (0-2) was charged with the loss after giving up five runs off eight hits in a little more than five innings of work.
The Eagles return to action Tuesday when they travel to Owensboro, Kentucky, to take on Kentucky Wesleyan College in a GLVC doubleheader. The first pitch is slated for noon.
