MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team dropped a pair of 5-2 decisions to Division I opponents at the University of Tennessee-Martin Saturday. The Screaming Eagles lost to Lipscomb University in a neutral site match and to host Tennessee-Martin.
USI freshman Christoph Burger (Germany) and sophomore Andrew McGuire (Greenwood, Indiana) led the Eagles in the losses. Burger swept both of his number one singles matches, winning in a tie-breaker over Andrew Harris of Lipscomb and in straight sets over Adolfo Anzola of UTM.
McGuire also was 2-0, winning both of his matches at number six singles. He defeated Lipscomb's William Murrell and UTM's Oleg Mironchikov in straight sets.
USI also was able win only one double match in each loss. McGuire and sophomore Ryan McDaniel (Bargersville, Indiana) won at number three doubles against Lipscomb, while Burger and freshman Nathan Moore (Santee, California) won at number two doubles against UTM.
The Eagles begin their fall individual tournament schedule next weekend by hosting the USI Fall Invitational at the USI Tennis Courts September 16-17.
