USI advances to championship game

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana advanced to the GLVC Championship match for the seventh consecutive year with a 5-0 win over the University of Missouri-St. Louis in the semifinals of the league tournament at the Purdue University Recreational Sports Center in West Lafayette, Indiana. Top seeded USI goes to 11-6 overall, while fourth-seeded UMSL falls to 10-7.

The Screaming Eagles swept the doubles matches to lead 3-0 going into singles play. USI sealed the match when senior Kyle Taylor (Veedersburg, Indiana) won by default at number six and junior Ryan Hughes (England) won in straight sets at number four singles.

The Eagles will play third-seeded University of Indianapolis in the championship Saturday at 9 a.m. Indianapolis advanced to the championship match by defeating sixth-seeded Bellarmine University, 6-0, and second-seeded Northern Kentucky University, 5-1.

USI last won the GLVC Tournament in 2002. The 2002 championship was the last of four in a row by the Eagles.
