EVANSVILLE, Ind.–The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team made two in a row to open GLVC action in 2004-05 with a 9-0 sweep of Northern Kentucky University Saturday morning at USI Tennis Courts. USI reaches the .500 mark at 5-5 and 2-0 in the GLVC.
USI sophomore Joe Epkey (Greenwood, Indiana) broke a two-match losing streak with a straight set victory over Oliver Marinkovic, 6-3 and 6-0. Epkey also combined with junior Ryan Hughes(England) for their first win at number one doubles. The pair defeated Marinkovic and Nick Herzog, 8-3.
Hughes won the closest match in singles play, defeating Billy Hopkins in a third set tie-breaker. Hughes took the match 6-3, 4-6, and 10-8 tie-breaker.
The Eagles visit the University of Tennessee-Martin Monday at 2 p.m. and return to GLVC action April 1 when they travel to Romeoville, Illinois, to take on Lewis University in a 3 p.m. match.
