The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team fell to 10th-ranked Northwood University, 5-0, in the championship match of the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Saturday afternoon in Midland, Michigan. USI concludes the season with a 16-4 overall record.
Northwood swept the doubles matches and then had winners at number two and three singles for the victory.
USI senior
Ethan Davis (Sullivan, Indiana) and sophomore
Weston Phillips (Henderson, Kentucky) finished the season tying for the USI singles lead, each posting 19 victories. Davis finishes his career with a USI all-time record of 79 singles victories, while Phillips is already hot on his heels with 48 wins in just two seasons.
At doubles, USI was led by two pairs – senior
Chris Crawford (Jeffersonville, Indiana)/junior
Paulus Halim (Indonesia) at number one doubles and Phillips/freshman
Chris McCreight (Jeffersonville, Indiana) at number three doubles — with 15 wins apiece. Number two doubles, Davis and junior
Bhavesh Chadda (India), were close behind with 14 victories.
USI Head Coach
Jon Mark Hall finishes his coaching career by taking the Eagles farther than the men's tennis program had ever been. Hall's seven-year tenure at USI saw the Eagles post a 123-47 record, a .724 winning percentage. "I am very proud of the team," said Hall, who now becomes the full-time athletic director at USI. "They set a goal of advancing in the tournament and they achieved that goal."
"Northwood is a top 10 team and we are just not at that level yet," concluded Hall "Overall, we played well and it was a great weekend.
