USI-SIUE series schedule changed for this weekend

Screaming Eagles also host Bellarmine during homestand

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — University of Southern Indiana Baseball returns to the USI Baseball Field this weekend to start a four-game homestand beginning with SIU Edwardsville Thursday and Friday for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series. The series has been moved up due to the forecast of rain this weekend.
 
The new schedule for the series is 3 p.m. Thursday, while the final two games are being converted to a 1 p.m. doubleheader Friday.
 
The homestand will conclude Monday (April 6) when USI (18-11, 3-3 OVC) hosts Bellarmine University for a non-conference match-up. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. Following the homestand, USI goes on the road Tuesday (April 7) to play at Butler University at 2 p.m. (CDT).

USI Baseball Notes:
USI starts week with a win at Middle Tennessee. The USI Screaming Eagles started the week with a 7-2 victory at Middle Tennessee State. USI scored six times in the final three innings to get the victory. Senior first baseman Patrick McLellan had three hits, while junior right-hander Eben Hansen posted his second win of the year in relief.
 
USI last week. USI was 2-2 last week, beginning with a 13-3 run-rule victory over Ball State and a series-opening win over Little Rock (8-5) before dropping the final two games (6-0, 9-4). Senior first baseman Patrick McLellan led USI last week with a .500 average (8-16). McLellan also had five runs scored, a double, and four RBIs. Junior right-hander Levin East led the hurlers with a 0.00 ERA out of the bullpen, earning a pair of wins and striking out nine.
 
Hitting cools on the road. The USI hitters have been cool while on the road this season. The Screaming Eagles are hitting .289 (172-596) in the 17 road games, while batting .321(125-389) in 12 games at home.
 
Pitching on the road vs. at home. USI hurlers are 7-10 on the road trip and have a 5.74 ERA. The staff ERA at home is 4.07 and has an 11-1 record.
 
Doing it at the plate. USI is putting runs on the scoreboard at an incredible rate. USI is second in the OVC with 231 runs scored this season (8.0 per game). The Screaming Eagles also rank third in the OVC with a .302 team batting average.
 
Leaders. Senior first baseman Patrick McLellan leads USI and is fifth in the OVC with a .377 mark (43-114). Senior shortstop Clayton Slack follows with a .368 average and is seventh in the league.
 
At USI Baseball Field. USI is 11-1 at home this season, outscoring its opponents, 117-52. The Screaming Eagles also are batting .321 as a team, led by graduate outfielder Noah Foster with a .455 average (20-44). Junior right-hander Levin East leads the hurlers with a 3-0 record and a 0.00 ERA in 9.2 innings.
 
SIUE in 2026. SIUE is 14-14 overall and 6-0 in the OVC after winning seven of its last 10 games. The Cougars were 5-11 in the first 16 games.    
 
USI vs. SIUE. SIUE leads the all-time series with USI, 60-49, after taking two of three last year in Edwardsville, Illinois. USI leads the series since making the move to Division I, 5-4.
 
Bellarmine in 2026. Bellarmine is 11-16 and is slated to host Lipscomb this weekend before traveling to USI Monday. The Knights are 4-1 in the last five games.
 
USI vs. Bellamrine. USI leads the all-time series with Bellarmine, 89-79, after the Knights took the meeting of the season, 3-2, in Louisville, Kentucky.
 
Butler in 2026. Butler is 8-20 in 2026 and will host Villanova this weekend before welcoming USI.  
 
USI vs. Butler. Butler leads the series with USI, 6-2. The last meetings were in 1978 when Butler won 6-1 and 4-0. USI took both games in 1977, 6-4 and 11-5, for its only victories over the Bulldogs.
