USI Golf set to battle Evansville Friday morning

EVANSVILLE, Ind.- University of Southern Indiana Women's and Men's Golf will match up once again against the University of Evansville on Friday at Fendrich Golf Course for another edition of the crosstown clash.

Friday's format will feature a singles match between each respective side's top men's player and a partnered four-ball in the rest of the groupings between the men's and women's teams. The four-ball groupings will pit two USI players against two UE players, with the best score between partners counting for each hole.

Following similar rules to professional match-play events, a point will be awarded to the winner of each hole. A tie will result in a hole being halved. The trophy will be awarded to the team that has won the most points overall after the men's and women's scores have been tallied together.

The singles match will tee off at Fendrich Golf Course at 9 a.m. The last grouping will tee off not long after 10 a.m.

The two teams faced off in the fall at Western Hills Country Club, with the Purple Aces taking the overall victory 9-8 (Men's: UE 6.5-USI 3.5, Women's: USI 4.5-2.5).

On the women's side, the Screaming Eagles defeated the Aces, finishing with an average advantage of plus-two. Freshman McKenna Lowe paced USI, securing her win with a three-hole lead before play was halted with two holes remaining. Sophomore Brianna Kirsch and graduate student Valeria Lopez de Haro Juste each held two-hole leads when their matches were called with one hole to play, while sophomore Fernanda Vera completed all 18 holes to earn a plus-two victory.

For the men, graduate Sam Gargis and junior Hunter Reynolds each earned victories in their respective matchups. Reynolds secured his point in a tightly contested match, pulling away by winning the final two holes. Gargis claimed a three-hole victory after building a three-hole lead with three to play and halving the 16th to close it out.
