EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Softball heads to the University of Memphis 901 Classic in Memphis, Tennessee, to compete in five games this weekend.
USI will take on the University of Missouri-Kansas City (2-3), Ball State University (2-3), the University of Evansville (2-3), Miami University (Ohio) (4-1), and host University of Memphis (2-3). The Screaming Eagles start the tournament on Friday at 9 a.m. against Kansas City before a 1 p.m. battle against Ball State. On Saturday, USI will square off against crosstown foe Evansville at 11 a.m. before seeing Miami (Ohio) at 5 p.m. The Screaming Eagles conclude the weekend on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Memphis.
The Screaming Eagles will face Kansas City, Ball State, Miami (Ohio), and Memphis for the first time. USI will compete against Evansville for the 47
th time and for the first time since 2023. The all-time series against Evansville is tied, 23-23.
USI is coming off a tough opening weekend to start the 2026 season. USI went 0-4 last weekend at the Alabama State University Stinger Classic, suffering losses against Nicholls State University (9-1), Northern Kentucky University (8-2), Murray State University (5-3), and host Alabama State (10-2).
One of the notable performances last weekend came from junior outfielder
Kate Satkoski, who batted .444 with a 1.434 OPS. On Sunday, Satkoski had her best game against Murray State, recording a double and a home run while scoring two runs. Satkoski also had an RBI hit against Alabama State on Sunday afternoon.
Additionally, at the plate, sophomore first baseman
Grace Huffman and freshman outfielder
Katelyn Marx each hit .300 or better on opening weekend. Huffman had a two-hit game against Murray State and added a double and an RBI against Alabama State on Sunday. Marx registered her first career two-hit game with an RBI on Saturday against Northern Kentucky.
Notably, from the pitching circle, freshman pitcher
Anna Kemp recorded her first career complete game on Sunday against Murray State, allowing only three earned runs in six innings while striking out eight batters.
