Screaming Eagles entertain Murray State this weekend

First pitch for Friday, Saturday changed due to weather

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — University of Southern Indiana Baseball is at home this weekend to host Murray State University for a three-game series Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The weekend series is the first of the spring for the Screaming Eagles.
 
Due to the weather forecast, the first pitch has been moved up to 4 p.m. on Friday and to 11 a.m. on Saturday. The series finale on Sunday is still slated for 1 p.m.
 
With the ever-changing weather in March, USI encourages fans to watch for potential schedule changes on USIScreamingEagles.comX, and Facebook.
 
The first game of the USI-Murray State series is "Free Custard Friday" at the USI Baseball Field. Fans will receive a free custard coupon at each Friday USI home game when the Eagles win.

USI Baseball Notes:
USI falls in high high-scoring game with Bellarmine. The USI Screaming Eagles lost a high-scoring contest at Bellarmine University, 10-8, Wednesday. Junior first/third baseman Patrick McLellan led USI with three hits, while sophomore second baseman Parker Martin had a pair of RBIs.
 
USI posts big win over APSU. USI posted its first-ever win over Austin Peay State University Tuesday. Junior left-hander Jake Porter posted his first win as an Eagle. At the plate, junior designated hitter Cole Kitchens and junior shortstop Clayton Slack had three hits each.
 
Kitchens has the hot stick. Junior designated hitter Cole Kitchens has had the big bat for USI the last five games, hitting .600 (12-20) with two runs scored, two doubles, one home run, and three RBIs.
 
Kitchens leads the Eagles at the plate. USI junior designated hitter Cole Kitchens is the top hitter at USI and third in the OVC. Kitchens leads USI in hitting with a .417 batting average (16-39). He also is tied for first in home runs (2), second in doubles (5), and third on the team in RBIs (11).  
 
On the mound: Junior right-hander Blake Kimball led the USI starters in the opening weeks with a 2-2 record and a team-best 2.55 ERA.
 
USI in the OVC. USI ranks second in the OVC with a .301 team batting average and fifth with 103 runs scored. On the bump, the Eagles are eighth in the league with a 7.05 ERA.  
 
USI at home this weekend. USI is at home for a weekend series for the first time this season vs. Murray State University.  
 
USI hosts Murray State. Murray State leads the all-time series with USI, 9-3-1, after the teams split a home-and-home series last year. The Eagles won on the road, 10-5, but lost at the USI Baseball Field, 13-6.
 
Murray State in 2025: Murray State is 10-3 after sweeping Lindenwood University this week at home. The Racers are 7-3 in the last 10 games.
