USI Women’s Soccer gets six named CSC Academic All-District

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Women's Soccer senior defender Charli Grafton, senior forward Peyton Murphy, senior forward Emerson Grafton, redshirt junior midfielder Emma Thurston, redshirt junior goalkeeper Anna Markland, and redshirt sophomore forward Eva Boer were named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District for NCAA Division I. 
 
Charli Grafton and Murphy earn their third CSC Academic All-District awards, Emerson Grafton and Markland earn theirs for the second year in a row, and Thurston and Boer earn their first career CSC Academic All-District awards.
 
To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District Award, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale). They must have reached a sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution.
 
Charli Grafton, a nursing major, helped anchor USI's defensive unit in 2025. The centerback totaled over 1,700 minutes of action, making 19 starts in 21 matches played. Grafton helped lead the Screaming Eagles' defense to 10 shutouts in 2025, including four straight to conclude the season and seven against conference opponents. Grafton finished the season by being named to the Ohio Valley Conference's All-Tournament Team after scoring two game-winning goals in the first two rounds and helping USI to post three shutouts in the tournament. Grafton was named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll earlier this year.
 
Murphy, also a nursing major, had a career season to close out her USI career. Murphy, who started 20 matches in 21 appearances, posted 14 points after matching a team-best five goals and notching four assists in 1,547 minutes of action this season. Murphy scored twice during the OVC season and scored twice in USI's win against Eastern Illinois University in the OVC Tournament. The senior took 32 shots with 11 on goal. Murphy finished her career in the top 15 in USI's all-time history in goals (14), assists (12), and points (40), while ranking as USI's leading scorer in the Division I era. The senior was named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll and received the OVC Medal of Honor in August.
 
Emerson Grafton also had a career season in her final year. Grafton started all 20 matches she appeared in and led USI in scoring with 15 points after matching a team-best five goals and dishing out five assists, ranking inside the top 10 in the OVC in all three categories. Three of Grafton's five goals were game-winners. Two of Grafton's five goals came against Valparaiso University in September, leading to OVC Offensive Player of the Week honors. The forward had two goals in OVC play. In over 1,300 minutes on the field, Grafton had 42 shots with 14 on goal. Grafton finished with a career total of 27 points, eight goals, and 11 assists in two seasons in a USI uniform. The finance major was named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll and received the OVC Medal of Honor in August.
 
Markland was strong in goal once again in her third season with the Screaming Eagles, starting all 19 matches she appeared in and seeing over 1,700 minutes in between the posts. Markland had a career year with a 1.10 goals against average and nine shutouts. The netminder faced 215 shots on the season, making 59 saves. Markland posted three consecutive clean sheets between August 31 and September 7 against Southern Illinois University, Valparaiso, and Bellarmine University. The keeper once again registered three straight shutouts to conclude the season in the OVC Tournament against Southeast Missouri State University, Eastern Illinois, and Tennessee Tech University. Markland was a three-time OVC Goalkeeper of the Week honoree during the season. Markland is in the top five in USI history in shutouts (17) and GAA (1.28) and in the top eight in saves (210). The biology major garnered OVC academic laurels in August by earning the OVC Medal of Honor and being named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll.
 
Thurston, who missed all of 2024 due to injury, came back in 2025 with a stellar season. Thurston made 20 starts in 21 games played, totaling a team-high 1,830 minutes on the field. The midfielder had a team-high and career-best six assists, three of which came in the OVC Tournament toward being named on the OVC's All-Tournament Team. Her six assists on the season ranked first in the OVC. Thurston had two assists in USI's win against Eastern Illinois in the postseason. Thurston had 13 shots with nine on target during the season. Defensively, Thurston helped lock down the middle part of the field, aiding in USI's effort to finish the season with four straight clean sheets and 386 consecutive shutout minutes. The psychology major is a two-time OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll member.
 
Boer had a solid campaign, starting all 21 matches this season for the Screaming Eagles. Boer finished with eight points off three goals and a pair of assists in over 1,600 minutes of action. The forward led USI with 43 shots and placed 14 shots on target. Boer scored the game-winning goal and fired a career-high eight shots in USI's win against Southeast Missouri State in late September. Earlier in the season, Boer was named OVC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring the first goal of the season at Akron. Boer is pursuing a degree in mathematics and received the OVC Medal of Honor and OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll laurels back in August.
 
USI Women's Soccer is coming off its best season in the Division I era, recording a 9-7-5 overall record. The Screaming Eagles were a semifinalist in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament, claiming their first wins in the conference tournament.
