NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Freshman
Hadessah Austin set a freshman record as University of Southern Indiana Women's Track & Field opened its 2024-25 indoor schedule Saturday at the Vanderbilt University Commodore Challenge.
Austin ran the 3,000 meters in nine minutes, 55.12 seconds to finish seventh out of 23 competitors. Her time was more than six seconds faster than the former freshman mark of 10:01.88, set by Erika Wilson in 2011.
Senior
Audrey Comastri had the Screaming Eagles' top finish on the day with a sixth-place effort in the mile. Comastri finished the race in 5:03.34, which placed her ahead of 21 other competitors.
Junior
Emily Rempe was ninth in the mile, while freshmen
Abrielle Richard and
Addison Applegate were 11th and 14th, respectively, in the same event. Junior
Ellie Hall rounded out the Eagles competitors with a ninth-place finish in the 3,000 meters.
USI competes in two meets next weekend. The Eagles are sending a small group to Bloomington, Indiana, to race the Indiana Invitational Friday and Saturday, while the rest of the team will compete at the Bellarmine Open in Louisville, Kentucky, Friday.
