Women’s Basketball alum Kennitra Johnson named to Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Silver Anniversary Team

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Women's Basketball alum Kennitra Johnson was named one of 18 players to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame 2024 Silver Anniversary Team.
 
The Silver Anniversary team recognizes players with outstanding accomplishments as a senior high school basketball player 25 years ago. A formal recognition of the 2024 Women's Silver Anniversary Team members will be honored at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame's 22nd Women's Awards Banquet on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
 
A guard from New Albany, Indiana, and New Albany High School, Johnson transferred into the USI Women's Basketball program and spent two seasons as a Screaming Eagle from 2003-05 under Head Coach Rick Stein.
 
Johnson helped USI to an NCAA II Tournament berth in 2003-04, averaging over nine points, three assists, and two steals per game that season. Johnson also earned a Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honor after a career-high 24-point performance against Pittsburg State University in the 2003-04 season opener.
 
Battling injury during her time at USI, Johnson made five starts in 21 games played for Southern Indiana. She shot for 38 percent overall and over 31 percent from three during her USI career, averaging over eight points, two rebounds, three assists, and two steals per contest.
 
Johnson came to Southern Indiana after two seasons at the University of Connecticut, where she was a member of Connecticut's 2000 national championship team and 2001 national semifinalist team. Johnson was also named to the Big East All-Rookie team in 2000.
 
As a senior at New Albany High School, Johnson was a first-team Parade All-American, named MVP of the 1999 Nike/WBCA All-America game, a 1999 Indiana All-Star, a 1999 USA Today/Indiana Player of the Year, an AP first-team All-State selection, and was ranked the nation's No. 17 senior by Blue Star. Johnson led New Albany to the Class 4A state championship and a 28-0 record as a senior, averaging 21 points, four rebounds, five assists, and five steals per game. Johnson was also one of 12 heralded Hoosier girls' basketball players named to the IHSAA First Silver Era Team in 2000. Johnson finished her high school career with a school record of 1,837 points along with other New Albany career records of 570 assists and 508 steals; single-season records of 587 points, 159 assists, and 153 steals; and a single-game record of 47 points.
 
Since graduating from USI in 2005, Johnson spent a few years as a girls' basketball assistant coach at her high school alma mater and is currently a Director of Production at NYX New Albany.
