EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Women's Soccer hosts Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Monday at 1 p.m. for a Labor Day matchup from Strassweg Field. Admission to the match is free thanks to The Women's Hospital Deaconess.
USI (2-1-2) is coming off a 0-0 tie on the road Thursday at North Alabama. The result was USI's second straight draw and extended their current unbeaten streak to four matches. The road match with the Lions was a physical battle for USI, as there were a combined 30 fouls called. Plus, the battle for possession and battle in the midfield went back and forth. Senior goalkeeper
Maya Etienne (Midland, Michigan) achieved a career milestone in the 0-0 draw at North Alabama, as she surpassed 250 career saves with a six-save night in goal. Her 252 career saves put her fifth all-time in USI history. Etienne already holds USI's all-time shutout record with 32 career clean sheets.
Freshman midfielder
Peyton Murphy (Bargersville, Indiana) had the lone shot on goal against the Lions for the Screaming Eagles. The reigning OVC Offensive Player of the Week leads the Screaming Eagles with four goals, nine points, and 10 shots with nine on goal.
Through five matches in 2022, USI is at the top among Ohio Valley Conference teams with 69 shots, averaging 13.8 per game. After five matches, USI is outshooting their opponents 69 to 38 and 38 to 18 in shots on goal. 14 Eagles have already recorded multiple shot attempts and eight players have multiple shots on goal this season, led by Murphy with 10 shots and nine on target. USI leads the OVC in goals, assists, and points through their offensive output.
IUPUI is out of the Horizon League in NCAA Division I. IUPUI is 2-0-3 so far in the 2022 season, winning 1-0 and 3-2 in their first two matches against Tennessee Tech and SIU Edwardsville, respectively, which are two teams USI will face later in the Ohio Valley Conference season. IUPUI most recently had three consecutive 0-0 ties against Bellarmine, Western Illinois, and Belmont.
Senior forward Maya Lacognato leads the Jaguars with two goals scored this season, which is also good for a team-leading four points. She leads the team with four shots on goal and joins senior midfielder Alex Ludolph with eight shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Ashton Kudlo is IUPUI's netminder, starting all five matches played. She has allowed two goals with 16 saves and two solo shutouts. Her goals against average is 0.46. In 2021, IUPUI was 4-11-3 and 3-6-2 in the Horizon League. Maya Lacognato is the top returning scorer with three goals and nine points a season ago.
