USI opens 2021 season vs. Lake Erie

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — University of Southern Indiana Baseball opens the 2021 regular season at home when it hosts Lake Erie College February 26-28 for a three-game series and open the year with six-straight non-conference contests. The first pitch is slated for Friday at 1 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at noon.
 
USI will be implementing a spectator policy in 2021 due to COVID-19. For the safety and well-being of the players, coaches, and officials, the following guidelines have set in place:
 
• Attendance is limited to two pre-approved guests per USI student-athlete.
• Masks/face coverings for entry into the facility and must be worn at all times.
• Social distancing must be observed at all times.
 
Fans can catch all of the game coverage for the 2021, including live stats, video stream, and audio broadcasts, on GoUSIEagles.com. Selected games also can be heard on ESPN 97.7FM and 95.7FM The Spin.
 
Fans can watch free of charge on the GLVC Sports Network (GLVCSN), which is available both on your desktop, mobile/tablet devices, as well as four over-the-top (OTT) platforms (Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV and Apple TV). All broadcasts on GLVCSN are subject to weather or other unforeseen circumstances that could prevent the games from being broadcast.
 
The three-game series with Lake Erie will be followed by a three-game road series at Trevecca Nazarene University March 5-6 in Nashville, Tennessee. The six non-conference games will be followed by the start of the Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule, beginning with a visit to the University of Illinois Springfield March 12-14 for a four-game series.  

SCREAMING EAGLES BASEBALL NOTES #1:
 
Eagles entering 2021. The Eagles begin their 15th season under the direction of Head Coach Tracy Archuleta, who has a 483-265 (.646) record at USI and is the all-time winningest coach in the history of the program. USI was 6-8 in 2020 before the season was cut short due to COVID-19.  
 
USI predicted 2nd in GLVC Blue Division. USI is predicted to place second behind Lindenwood University in the GLVC's Blue Division in 2021.
 
At the plate in 2020. Freshman outfielder Austin Moody led the USI hitters (minimum 15 AB) with a .333 average (11-33) and is tied for second with five RBI in the 14 games of 2020. Senior outfielder Manny Lopez had a team-best nine RBI in the abbreviated campaign.

Archuleta at USI. USI Head Coach Tracy Archuleta is USI's all-time winningest coach with a record of 483-265 (.646) in 14 seasons and is 630-389 (.618) in 19 seasons all-time as a head coach. He has been named the ABCA Division II Coach of the Year twice (2010 and 2014) after leading the Screaming Eagles to a pair of national championships and the ABCA Division II Midwest Region Coach of the Year after leading USI to the regional crown in 2007, 2016 and 2018. Archuleta also has earned a pair of GLVC Coach of the Year awards (2011 and 2014) at USI. 

Eagles vs. Lake Erie. USI leads the all-time series with Lake Erie, 6-0, and are hosting the Storm for the first time since 2013 when the Eagles swept the series.
 
Lake Erie in 2020. The Storm of Lake Erie was 3-6-1 in the abbreviated 2020 season, losing the last four games. Lake Erie finished 2019, 29-22, with an appearance in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament.  
 
Eagles vs. Trevecca Nazarene. The Eagles lead the all-time series with Trevecca, 4-3, after sweeping a three-game series at home last February.
 
Trevecca Nazarene in 2020. The Trojans were 6-11 last spring before the rest of the season was canceled. Trevecca Nazarene finished 2019, 28-22, with an appearance in the G-MAC Tournament.
 
National Championship always the goal for Eagles. The Eagles have made a habit of competing in the NCAA II Championship over the last 14 seasons. USI has made eight NCAA II Midwest Regional appearances; won five Midwest Region crowns (2007, 2010, 2014, 2016, 2018); and captured the NCAA II National Championship twice (2010, 2014). The USI program tied for third in the 2007 NCAA II National Championship series, while finishing fifth in 2016 and eighth in 2018.
