GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team dropped its first dual match of the season, 4-3, at Davenport University on Sunday.
With the match score deadlocked at 3-3, the day's victory laid squarely at the foot of the No. 4 Singles battle between USI freshman
Lucas Sakamaki and Davenport's Daniil Khitrou. After ceding the first set, 6-4, Sakamaki battled back with a 6-3 output before ultimately falling, 6-4, in the final set.
Sakamaki and junior
Spencer Blandford teamed up for a 6-2 victory in No. 2 Doubles to open the day, backed up by a 6-3 victory in No. 1 Doubles from the team of junior
Yahor Bahdanovich and sophomore
Marvin Kromer, sealing the doubles point for the Eagles.
Blandford made quick work of his No. 5 Singles as well, winning by scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Sophomore
Parker Collignon followed up with a 6-2, 6-4, victory in No. 6 action, setting the stage for Sakamaki's deciding matchup in the third set of No. 4 action.
This first road trip of the spring for the Screaming Eagles was originally a two-dual slate before adverse travel conditions caused Friday's bout at Hillsdale College to be cancelled.
USI Men's Tennis will head north once again next weekend to visit Purdue University Northwest on Sunday.
