PARK FOREST, Ill. - The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team scored a 5-2 victory over Purdue University Northwest at the Park Forest Tennis Club early Sunday afternoon. The Screaming Eagles improve to a 2-1 overall record, dropping the Pride to 4-4 for the 2019-20 campaign.
Sophomore
Parker Collignon picked up USI's clinching fourth-point with a 6-4, 6-3 victory in the sixth slot of singles action.
The Eagles took a 1-0 advantage into singles play following victories in the second and third doubles matches. Freshmen
Lucas Sakamaki and
Preston Cameron swiftly captured No. 3 doubles, 6-3, before junior
Spencer Blandford and sophomore
Marvin Kromer clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 tally in No. 2 action.
USI extended to a 3-0 lead following victories from junior
Yahor Bahdanovich and Sakamaki in singles No. 1 and No. 5 play, respectively. Bahdonovich got singles action rolling with a 6-2, 6-3 score, followed by Sakamaki's 6-2, 6-2 effort.
Purdue Northwest closed the gap, 3-2, defeating the Eagles in No. 3 and No. 4 play before Collignon shut the door on the Pride with his victory in No. 6 action.
Kromer rounded out the day, defeating the Pride's Miguel Flores-Cepeda, 7-5, 6-3, in the second singles spot to capture USI's fifth point.
USI Men's Tennis continues its road trip next weekend at Northwood University on Saturday before returning to Evansville Sunday to host Ashland University at the Evansville Tennis Center.
