Eagles earn sixth-place finish in GLVC Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - University of Southern Indiana Men's Golf finished in a three-way tie for sixth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship tournament on Monday despite posting a 288 in the third round, the second-best performance of any round during the 2018-19 season. 

The Screaming Eagles posted a total score of 892, just eight strokes away from the four-team playoff for the conference title.

Freshman Zach Williams (Mt. Vernon, Illinois) and junior Zach Breault (Bridgeport, Illinois) led the way with three-round scores of 219, tied for 10th among all 65 competitors. Williams posted two rounds of 71, tied for the lowest round among the Eagles.

USI trimmed 13 strokes from its second round score to mount a comeback effort for the third. Sophomore Carson Pierce (Jasper, Indiana) tied Williams' 71 in the third round to lead the rally for the Eagles, while also setting a new season-best round. Pierce also earned the Jame R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award, given to one member of each team in the conference.

The 2018-19 season concluded for USI Men's Golf on Monday with the sixth-place finish at the Panther Creek Country Club.
