SCREAMING EAGLES BASEBALL NOTES:

USI hopes to end tough stretch. The Eagles enter this week's action having lost five of the last six games and fallen under the .500 mark.  Last week, USI lost a pair at the University of West Florida in the midweek games before defeating Alderson Broaddus University to break the four-game losing streak last Friday. The Eagles, however, could not stay on track, losing to Bellarmine University in the second game last Friday.

Eagle bats last week. USI was led last week by senior first baseman/right-handed pitcher Nick Gobert (Jasper, Indiana), who batted .538 with six runs scored in last week's four games. Senior rightfielder Buddy Johnson (Shelbyville, Kentucky) drove in a team-high five runs, while three other Eagles followed with three RBIs each.

USI at the plate this season. Senior first baseman/right-handed pitcher Nick Gobert leads USI hitters in 2018 with a .419 batting average and is tied for the team-high with five doubles. Gobert also enters the week with a team-best 11-game hitting streak. Senior rightfielder Buddy Johnson and senior first baseman/leftfielder Drake McNamara (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) are tied for the team-high with 11 RBIs each. McNamara also starts this week's action having reached base in 12-straight games.

Last week on the bump. USI senior right-hander Kyle Griffin (Morganfield, Kentucky) picked up the only victory for USI last week, going 1-1. In the win over Alderson Broaddus, Griffin went six innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out five.

Eagles on the mound in 2018. The Eagles have six hurlers with one victory each, while junior left-hander Chase Partain (Evansville, Indiana) has the team's top ERA at 1.50 in two starts and 12 innings of work.

USI vs. Quincy. USI trails the all-time series with Quincy, 40-36. The Eagles were 2-1 in three games versus the Hawks last year in Quincy, Illinois.

Archuleta at USI. USI Head Coach Tracy Archuleta is USI's all-time winningest coach with a record of 416-220 (.654) in 10-plus seasons and is 564-343 (.622) in 15-plus seasons all-time as a head coach. He has been named the ABCA Division II Coach of the Year twice (2010 and 2014) after leading the Screaming Eagles to a pair of national championships and the ABCA Division II Midwest Region Coach of the Year after leading USI to the regional crown in 2016.
