USI Women's Basketball Notes
• Eagles breeze past Lindenwood-Belleville for eighth straight win. USI Women's Basketball recorded its eighth consecutive victory on December 4, defeating NAIA opponent Lindenwood-Belleville, 75-42. Led by sophomore guard
Emma DeHart, the Eagles had four players in double figures and another with nine points. DeHart finished the evening with 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.
• Playing from in front. The Eagles have not trailed in a game since the opening seconds of the second quarter of their 80-65 win over Michigan Tech.
• Busy schedule comes to crawling pace. The Eagles fast-paced schedule to begin the season has come to a slow crawl. After playing nine games in less than a month, USI will play just two games in a 30-day span, allowing players to focus on finals and a pair of strong challenges in Central Missouri and Ashland.
• USI vs. defending national champions. USI is playing a defending national champion for just the fourth time in program history when it squares off against Central Missouri Tuesday evening. USI is 2-1 all-time against defending national champions. The Eagles swept Northern Kentucky in 2000-01 after the Norse won the national championship in 2000; while Northern Kentucky defeated USI 62-48 at the PAC in January 2009 after winning the 2008 title.
• Spreading the wealth. The Eagles have six players averaging at least 7.0 points per game and three players averaging in double-figures. USI also has had six players lead it in scoring this season.
• Eagles in midst of second-longest home win streak. The Eagles extended their home winning streak to 28 games with their win over Lindenwood-Belleville December 4. It is USI's second-longest home winning streak in program history. USI won 33 straight games at the PAC from 1996-98 and 23 straight home games from 2000-02.
• 20-point efforts. Guy's career-high 25 points in USI's win over Michigan Tech marked a season-high for the Eagles and made her the fourth different Eagle to notch a 20-point game this season. USI has had eight different players reach double-figures in the scoring column this year and six different players reach double-figures multiple times.
• Up next. USI visits defending national champion Central Missouri December 18 and hosts defending NCAA runner-up Ashland December 30 to close out its non-conference schedule.
• About Central Missouri. The Jennies enter Tuesday's game with a 7-2 overall mark and a 1-1 record in the MIAA after an 84-67 road victory over GLVC foe Rockhurst on December 10. Led by senior guard Paige Redmond, the Jennies have three players averaging at least 14.0 points per game. Redmond is contributing 15.9 points and a team-high 3.9 assists per contest in 2018-19.
• About Ashland. The Eagles, a founding member of the GLVC and former conference rival to USI, are 8-1 overall and 3-1 in GLIAC play after an 83-51 road win over Davenport on December 8. Ashland, which lost to Central Missouri in the national title game a year ago after winning the 2017 national championship, recently had a 69-game regular-season win streak snapped at the hands of Grand Valley State. Junior guard Jodi Johnson, the reigning NCAA Division II Player of the Year, is averaging 19.9 points per game to lead the Eagles, who host Notre Dame (Ohio) December 17 before visting Indianapolis December 19.
• Around the corner. USI resumes GLVC play January 3 when it travels to St. Louis, Missouri, to take on Maryville University.
• GLVC Tournament Points Rating System. After one week of conference action, the GLVC Tournament Points Rating System (GTPRS) has the Eagles in a tie for fourth with Drury and Lewis. The GTPRS will determine the participants and seeding of the GLVC Tournament in 2018-19.
• Record book watch. One player is currently in USI's record books:
–
Kacy Eschweiler is 11th in blocks (63), 25th in rebounding (403) and is 41st in scoring (622).
• Magic Mark: 75 points. The Eagles are 406-75 (.844) all-time when scoring at least 75 points. USI is 279-26 (.915) since 1996-97 when reaching the 75-point plateau.
