EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Women's Basketball and Head Coach
Rick Stein announced that
Stephanie Gehlhausen and
Madi Webb are returning to the program as assistant coaches ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Gehlhausen '12 and Webb '25 are both USI alumnae and former players for the Screaming Eagles under Stein, both competing for their final two seasons at USI. Gehlhausen played from 2009-11, while Webb played from 2023-25.
"I am so excited to welcome back two outstanding people, coaches, and former players," Stein said. "Stephanie and Madi continue a long tradition of fantastic former USI Screaming Eagle student-athletes who have joined my staff throughout the last 27 years!"
Gehlhausen is making her second stint as an assistant coach for the Screaming Eagles, having previously served on the coaching staff from 2011 through 2016 and helping lead the Eagles to 84 total wins and an NCAA II Tournament berth in 2014-15.
After her first coaching stint at USI, Gehlhausen served as associate head coach at Ashland University, where she helped lead the program to an undefeated 31-0 season in 2019-20 and earned the WBCA Division II National Assistant of the Year award. Gehlhausen went on to become head coach at Lander University from 2022-24, leading a double-digit turnaround in the win column. Plus, she coached the Peach Belt Conference's 2023-24 Player of the Year and All-Region team member, as well as a Second-Team All-Peach Belt selection, while making it into the top 10 in every NCAA II Region Poll. Gehlhausen was also an assistant coach for Marshall University in 2024-25.
As a player, Gehlhausen played in 49 games in her two seasons in a USI uniform, helping the Eagles to an NCAA II Tournament berth in 2009-10. She earned Academic All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honors and the GLVC Council of Presidents Academic Excellence Award in 2010-11.
"Stephanie was an integral part of our team and program for more than eight years as a player and coach," Stein commented. "She brings so much valuable coaching experience at all levels, which will impact our team again immediately. Her time spent as a head coach and assistant coach at multiple places will be extremely beneficial and help for a smooth transition into the Ohio Valley Conference."
Prior to USI, Gehlhausen began her playing career at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. Gehlhausen, a native of Newburgh, Indiana, and a graduate of Castle High School, graduated from USI in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology.
Webb returns to USI after a year as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Bedford North Lawrence High School, where she helped lead the squad to a winning season in 2025-26.
As a player, Webb was an All-OVC Second-Team selection in 2023-24 while helping lead the squad to the Ohio Valley Conference Regular-Season and Tournament Championship titles, earning an OVC All-Tournament Team selection. Webb also helped lead the Eagles to back-to-back Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) appearances in 2023-24 and 2024-25. In two seasons at USI, Webb played in 65 games, made 60 starts, scored nearly 600 points, recorded over 200 rebounds, and shot over 47 percent from the floor.
"Madi was a high-impact addition to our team just a few short years ago as an All-OVC player, OVC All-Tournament Team selection, and an OVC champion," Stein added. "Madi brings immediate OVC experience to our team and program, helping to continue our long-term success with our post play and inside-out game."
Prior to USI, Webb spent three seasons at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Webb, a native of Bedford, Indiana, and a graduate of Bedford North Lawrence High School, graduated from USI with a bachelor's degree in professional studies in 2024 and a master's degree in sports management in 2025.
