USI start GLVC Tournament action Thursday EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The University of Southern Indiana baseball team starts Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament action Thursday when the fifth-seeded Screaming Eagles take on fourth-seeded Truman State University at 10 a.m. (CDT). The GLVC Tournament is being held at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.
The Eagles clinched a spot in the GLVC post-season when they swept a four-game series from the University of Illinois Springfield on the road this weekend. USI has won its last 10 games and won 18 of its last 24 conference games to receive a berth in the league tournament.

Alex Holder (Princeton, Indiana) finished the regular season with a perfect 5-0 record after posting a win over Illinois Springfield in the final weekend. Holder, who has won five of his eight starts, struck out a season-high 10 batters to get the fifth victory.

Tyler Nichols (Newburgh, Indiana) has been strong down the stretch for the Eagles as the fourth starter. Nichols is 3-1 with a 2.67 ERA in his last five starts since beginning the year 1-3 with a 6.08 ERA in his first four starts.

Tracy Archuleta has a USI record of 338-169 (.667) in eight-plus seasons and is 486-293 (.624) in 13-plus seasons as a head coach. He has been named the ABCA Division II Coach of the Year twice (2010 and 2014) after leading the Screaming Eagles to a pair of national championships. He also has earned a pair of GLVC Coach of the Year awards (2011 and 2014).
