EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The No. 8 University of Southern Indiana baseball team surrendered runs in four different innings as it suffered a 9-3 setback to No. 17 Drury University in the second round of the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Tournament Friday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field.

Drury (42-12), which staved off elimination with the victory, had solo tallies in the first and second innings, two runs in the third, and five in the sixth as the Panthers built a 9-0 cushion. The Panthers had leadoff hits in five different innings, including the first, third, and fifth frames.

USI (42-12) answered with a three-spot in the bottom of the seventh inning as sophomore catcher Ryan Bertram and sophomore outfielder Hamilton Carr had RBIs to trim Drury's advantage to six runs.

Drury pitchers, however, retired the final nine batters they faced as the Screaming Eagles saw their 24-game home winning streak come to a close.

Junior hurler Ben Wright suffered the setback for the Eagles after giving up four runs, one earned, off seven hits in three-plus innings of work. Wright falls to 6-3 with the setback.

USI, the top seed and host of the Midwest Region Tournament, heads into an elimination game Saturday at 11 a.m. against the No. 4 seed, Wayne State University. Wayne State lost to the No. 2 seed, Grand Valley State University, 7-2, Friday night. Drury, the No. 3 seed, plays the No 5 seed, Lake Erie College, Saturday at 3 p.m. in another elimination contest.
