Kyle Kempf (Evansville, Indiana) singled in the game-winning run that capped off a three-run rally in the 14
th inning of game two to lead the Screaming Eagles to a doubleheader and four-game sweep of Lewis University Saturday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. USI won the opening game and the nightcap by identical scores of 4-3.
The 18
th-ranked Eagles rise to 30-8 overall and 22-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Lewis falls to 19-19, 12-13 GLVC. Saturday's doubleheader sweep takes USI's winning streak to a season-high nine games. USI also has won 16 of the last 17 contests.
Kempf was the hero in both games for the Eagles, going six-for-10 at the plate with three runs scored, and an RBI. He led the way with two hits and two runs scored in the opener, followed by four hits, a run scored, and an RBI in the nightcap.
The Eagles set the stage for Kempf in the 14
th after falling behind, 3-1, in the top half of the inning. USI scratched their way back into the game when sophomore centerfielder
Hamilton Carr (Evansville, Indiana) doubled to start the inning and scored when junior third baseman
Trent Gunn (Tell City, Indiana) doubled to make the score, 3-2.
Gunn advanced to third and scored the tying run when junior catcher
Austin Edge (Whitesville, Kentucky) sacrificed and went all the way to third on an error when Lewis second baseman Drew Buddle failed to catch the throw at first base. Senior pinch runner
Matt Bowles (Mt. Washington, Kentucky) ran for Edge and scored the winning run when Kempf singled to the right center gap.

Matt Chavarria (Carlsbad, New Mexico) picked up the win in game two, his first victory as an Eagle. He allowed the two runs to Lewis in the 14
th on three hits and a walk before being picked up by the USI bats in the bottom half of the inning.
Chavarria (1-0, 9 saves), who picked up his ninth save of the year in game one, followed senior right-handed starter
David Toth (Danville, Illinois), senior right-hander
Brandon Shaw (Cuba, Illinois), and junior right-hander
Andrew Mercer (Mt. Pearl, Newfoundland) to the mound in the nightcap. Toth suffered the no-decision despite going 10 innings and allowing only one run on five hits, while striking out six.

Scott Haag (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) picked up the win in relief for the Eagles. Haag (2-1) got USI out of a jam in the top of the fifth after the Flyers tied the score for a third time in the game and earned his second win of the year.
Bowles started game one for the Eagles, but was unsuccessful in getting his team-best seventh win of the year. Bowles went 4.2 innings, allowing seven hits and three runs, while striking out three.
The Eagles resume the 11-game homestand Tuesday when they host Oakland City University for a non-conference game. The first pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
