EVANSVILLE, Ind.--- The University of Southern Indiana baseball team had an all-around showing at the plate, defeating Wayne State College (NE), 12-3, in game five of the Dunn Hospitality Classic Saturday evening at the USI Baseball Field. The Eagles improve to 6-4 overall, while the Wildcats drop down to 2-4 overall.

Senior pitcher Jonathon Wandling (Evansville, Indiana), who totaled a game-high seven strikeouts, earned the win, improving to 1-0 on the season. WSC's John Roberts (0-1) took the loss in his first appearance at the mound this season.

Sophomore Kyle Kempf (Evansville, Indiana) had a lead off hit to left field and then advanced two bases off Andrew Cope's (Evansville, Indiana) single to the right in the bottom of the first. Kempf then crossed the plate, putting USI on the board first, after Tyler Mikrut (Edwardsville, Illinois) sent the ball flying out to right center. Junior shortstop Matt Chavarria (Carlsbad, New Mexico) followed up with a RBI-single, which put USI ahead, 2-0, at the end of the first.

Wayne State College tried to close in on USI's 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth, pounding out two RBI-singles, but failed to get more runs on the board, settling for a 4-2 score.

The Eagles earned two more runs in their portion of the second with RBI-singles by Cope and Mikrut, respectively. Chavarria tripled to right center, sending Mikrut in, and then proceeding to steal home for USI's eighth run.
