All-GLVC Team Release
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Three University of Southern Indiana women's basketball players were honored on the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference teams Tuesday, two days before the Screaming Eagles take on No. 21 Quincy University in the quarterfinals of the Deaconess Great Lakes Valley Conference Basketball Championship Tournament at the Ford Center in Evansville.
Junior forward/center
Anna Hackert was a unanimous first-team All-GLVC honoree, while senior guard
Stephanie Carpenter was named second-team All-GLVC. Hackert and junior guard
Autumn Miller were named to the GLVC All-Defensive Team.
Hackert, who earned first-team All-GLVC honors last year, is third in the GLVC with a team-best 18.0 points per game and second in the conference with a team-high 9.6 rebounds per contest. Earlier this season, Hackert earned GLVC Player of the Week honors for the third time in her career after logging a career-high 36 points in USI's 84-81 road win over William Jewell College.
Already 11th on USI's all-time scoring list with 1,087 career points, Hackert has 11 20-point outings and nine double-doubles this season. She ranks seventh in the league with a team-best 1.1 blocks per outing.
Carpenter, who is earning All-GLVC honors for the first time in her career, is second on the team and 11th in the GLVC with 14.5 points per contest. USI's all-time leader in career three-pointers (192), Carpenter leads the league with 2.7 three-pointers per game.
An Academic All-District IV performer, Carpenter is just 11 points shy of becoming the 14th player in school history to reach 1,000 in her career. She was named the GLVC Player of the Week for the first time in her career earlier this season after leading USI to wins over the University of Indianapolis and Saint Joseph's College.
Miller is the second USI point guard in the last two seasons to earn a spot on the GLVC All-Defensive Team—senior
Ariel Barnes earned the honor a year ago. In her first year with the Eagles, Miller has racked up 1.7 steals per game, good enough for 10th in the GLVC. She is currently fourth on the team with 7.1 points per outing.
USI (19-8) meets Quincy for the second time this season when the two teams tip-off Thursday at 8:30 p.m. In the first meeting, a 90-87 setback in Quincy, Illinois, last month, Carpenter scored all of her 22 points in the final 11 minutes as the Eagles nearly pulled off what would have been the greatest comeback in program history and one of the greatest in GLVC history.
The Eagles trailed the Lady Hawks by 28 with 11 minutes to play, but trimmed that deficit to a single point with less than 10 seconds to play before Quincy pulled out the three-point win.
USI, which defeated Missouri University of Science & Technology, 63-50, in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament Sunday at the Physical Activities Center to advance into the quarterfinals, is the No. 6 seed after finishing the year with a 12-6 mark in league play.
Quincy (21-5, 14-4 GLVC), which had a first-round bye, enters Thursday's game as the No. 3 seed. The Hawks lost three straight games to close out the regular season.
If the Eagles win Thursday, they will play the winner of the game between the No. 2 seed, Lewis University, and the No. 7 seed, Truman State University, Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The GLVC Championship is Sunday at 1 p.m.
Truman State and Lewis tip-off Thursday at 6 p.m., while other quarterfinal games include the No. 4 seed Indianapolis taking on the No. 5 seeded University of Missouri-St. Louis Tritons at noon as well as the No. 1 seed Drury University verses the No. 8 seed Maryville University at 2:30 p.m. Drury is ranked No. 6, nationally, while Lewis is tied for No. 11, nationally.
An All-Tournament Pass (all seven sessions) is $35, while a Session Flex Pass (any two of the first six sessions) is $25. Individual session tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for students with a valid ID. Children six and under admitted free.
