ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—The No. 22 University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team snapped a four-match losing streak with a 6-3 victory over Eckerd College Friday afternoon. The Screaming Eagles fell to No. 46 New York Institute of Technology, 7-2, in Saint Leo, Florida, earlier in the day.

Joel Stern went a combined 3-1 to pace the Screaming Eagles, including 2-0 in singles competition.
In USI's setback to NYIT, sophomore

Josh Walden combined for a 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles. The Bears, however, earned wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to take a 2-1 lead going into singles play.
Stern picked up a three-set win at No. 5 singles, but USI suffered straight-set defeats at No. 2, No. 4, and No. 6 singles as well as three-set losses at No. 1 and No. 4 singles. NYIT represented the Eagles' fourth straight nationally-ranked opponent.
The Eagles (10-5) rebounded later in the day as USI earned wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to build an early 2-1 advantage. Despite suffering losses at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, the Eagles posted wins at No. 2-5 singles to complete the 6-3 triumph.
Stern paired with senior
Santiago Lopez for an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles before earning a straight-set victory at No. 4 singles.
USI returns to action March 22 at 9 a.m. (CDT) when it travels to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on Bellarmine University in a men's and women's doubleheader to begin Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
