Eagles visit Truman, Quincy for key GLVC bouts

Game Notes

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team visits Truman State University Thursday and No. 11 Quincy University Saturday for a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference contests. Tip-off for Thursday's game in Kirksville, Missouri, is 5:30 p.m., while Saturday's game in Quincy, Illinois, is slated for a 1 p.m. start.

Both games can be heard on WPSR 90.7 FM, while live stats, audio, and video can be accessed at www.gousieagles.com.

USI (14-5, 8-3 GLVC), which is currently third in the GLVC East Division, is looking to stay in the hunt for an East Division title as well as a top-four seed in the GLVC Tournament, which carries a first-round bye into the quarterfinals at the Ford Center.

The Screaming Eagles are currently tied for fifth overall in the league standings with Truman State (14-5, 8-3 GLVC) and a win over the Bulldogs Thursday would go a long way for any potential tie-breaker scenarios down the road.

Thursday's game at Truman State is the first-ever GLVC meeting between the Eagles and Bulldogs in women's basketball. USI is 2-1 all-time versus Truman State and is 1-0 against the Bulldogs in Kirksville.

USI hasn't been as fortunate in its visits to Quincy, where it has lost 11 straight games dating back to 1999. The Eagles suffered a 65-62 setback to the Lady Hawks (17-2, 10-1 GLVC), who lead the GLVC West Division, in Quincy a year ago.

Junior forward/center Anna Hackert, who leads the GLVC with 19.9 points per game, is just 25 points shy of reaching 1,000 for her career. She is third in the GLVC with a team-high 9.5 rebounds per outing and will become just the sixth player in school history with 1,000 points and 500 rebounds if she reaches the scoring milestone.

Senior guard Stephanie Carpenter, who is chipping in 14.3 points per appearance, is just 15 three-pointers shy of tying the program's all-time career mark of 184, currently held by Deb Pope. She also is just 131 points shy of 1,000.

The Eagles return to the Physical Activities Center February 13-15 following their two-game road trip.
