Game Notes
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Five players will be recognized Thursday night when the University of Southern Indiana women's basketball teams hosts Bellarmine University for Senior Night. Tip-off for the Screaming Eagles' regular-season finale is 5:15 p.m. at the Physical Activities Center.
USI (17-8, 11-6 GLVC) will honor its five seniors--guards
Ariel Barnes,
Stephanie Carpenter,
Aubrey Minix,
Jessica Parker, and forward/center
Nicole Hazemi—following the game.
WPSR 90.7 FM will carry the broadcast of Thursday's game, while live stats, audio, and video are available at gousieagles.com.
Having already locked into a first round home game in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament, USI is playing for positioning and trying to improve upon its NCAA II Tournament resume.
The Eagles, who were 10th in last week's NCAA II Midwest Region Rankings, can finish anywhere from the No. 5 seed to the No. 8 seed in the 12-team GLVC Tournament field.
Currently the No. 6 seed heading into their regular-season finale, the Eagles also are looking to avenge one of their two loses against the GLVC East Division when they host Bellarmine.
The Knights (13-12, 9-8 GLVC) defeated the Eagles, 72-62, last month in Louisville, Kentucky. USI, which played without the services of its leading scorer and rebounder in junior forward/center
Anna Hackert, committed 27 turnovers as the Knights pulled away in the second half.
Hackert is currently second in the GLVC with 18.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, while Carpenter, USI's all-time leader in three-pointers (189), is 13th in the league with 14.6 points per contest.
Thursday's game is the fourth meeting between USI Head Coach
Rick Stein and Bellarmine Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. Stein was an assistant under Dugan during her eight-year stint at USI. The USI Hall of Famer led the Eagles to 159 wins and the 1997 NCAA II Championship game from 1991-99.
