EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Senior guard Stephanie Carpenter matched the University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team's all-time record for three-pointers as the Screaming Eagles defeated the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 69-57, in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest on Homecoming Saturday at the Physical Activities Center.

Carpenter, who finished with a game-high 22 points and three assists, had a pair of three-pointers in the first period as the Eagles went into the break with a 30-28 halftime advantage.

Her record-tying 184th career three-pointer early in the second half and her assist on a layup by senior forward/center Nicole Hazemi capped a 6-0 spurt that put USI up, 36-30, four minutes into the second period.

The Eagles (15-8, 9-6 GLVC) distanced themselves from the Tritons in the first eight minutes of the second half as USI used an 18-7 run to build a 48-37 lead.

Missouri-St. Louis (17-6, 10-5 GLVC), which had won six straight games heading into Saturday's contest, trimmed USI's cushion to seven with four minutes to play; but a three-pointer by senior guard Jessica Parker followed by a layup by Hazemi gave the Eagles a comfortable 59-47 edge with less than three minutes left.

The Tritons made one last push as junior guard Kelly McGovern, who had a team-best 17 points, hit a three-pointer and a jumper to help Missouri-St. Louis close to within six (61-55) with 1:22 on the clock.

Carpenter and junior guard Autumn Miller, however, combined to sink 8-of-10 free throw attempts in the final 1:15 of the game as the Eagles held on for the 12-point win.

In addition to Carpenter, who is tied with Deb Pope for the program's three-point mark, the Eagles had four players in double-figures as Hazemi and Miller finished with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Junior guard Libby Ogden added 10 points, including eight in the opening period, while Parker chipped in six points and a game-high eight rebounds.

USI out-rebounded the Tritons, 44-38, and held the Missouri-St. Louis to just 31.7 percent from the floor.

The Eagles return to action Thursday at 4:30 p.m. (CST) when they visit No. 22 University of Indianapolis in a GLVC East Division bout. USI won the first meeting, 73-44, at the PAC last month.
