EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team returns to the Physical Activities Center as it hosts the University of Illinois Springfield Thursday at 5:15 p.m. and McKendree University Saturday at 1 p.m.
USI (12-5, 6-3 GLVC) is coming off a 58-45 road win over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside this past Saturday. Junior forward/center
Anna Hackert had 16 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Screaming Eagles, who snapped a season-long two-game skid with the win.
Hackert leads the Great Lakes Valley Conference with 20.7 points per game and ranks fourth in the league with a team-high 8.7 rebounds per contest. Senior guard
Stephanie Carpenter is chipping in 14.4 points per contest, while junior forward/center
Mary O'Keefe is contributing 8.4 points per appearance, including 16.3 points per game in her last four outings.
The Eagles, who are 8-1 at home this season, are 9-0 all-time against Illinois Springfield and 1-1 all-time against McKendree.
Illinois Springfield (5-12, 1-8 GLVC) is looking to stop a three-game losing streak after suffering home losses to the University of Indianapolis and Saint Joseph's College last week. Senior guard/forward Megan Bergerud leads the Prairie Stars with 15.8 points per game.
McKendree (7-9, 2-6 GLVC), which visits Bellarmine University Thursday, defeated Saint Joseph's before falling to UIndy last week. Senior guard Caty Ponce, a high school teammate of O'Keefe, is averaging 16.1 points per outing to lead the Bearcats, who have lost seven of their last eight.
USI is encouraging fans attending Saturday's game to bring a canned food item for Archie's Food Closet. Adult tickets for the men's and women's doubleheader will be $5 for anyone who brings a canned food item.
