EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Drury University sophomore guard Annie Armstrong hit a 16-foot shot as time expired to give the No. 10 Panthers a 91-89 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory over the University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center.

The bucket came after the Screaming Eagles (9-3, 3-1 GLVC) had erased a seven-point deficit in a matter of 30 seconds to tie the contest at 89 with 20 seconds to play.

Drury (12-1, 4-1 GLVC), however, worked the ball around the perimeter and it looked as if the two teams, both missing key players who had fouled out earlier in the contest, were headed to overtime. But a pass from senior forward Kylie Williamson, who led the Panthers with 23 points and 10 rebounds, found Armstrong for the game-winner, which stunned an Eagle squad that led by as many as seven points early in the second half.

After the two teams battled to a 42-42 tie at the break, the Eagles rode the performances of senior guard Stephanie Carpenter and junior forward/center Anna Hackert to take control of the contest.

Carpenter scored 17 of her 22 points in the second period, including nine in the first five minutes of the half as the Eagles jumped out to a 58-51 edge. Hackert had 16 of her game-high 28 points in the second half, which saw the Eagles maintain the lead for much of the first 15 minutes.

Drury, however, used a 7-0 run that lasted just over a minute to grab a brief 78-75 lead. Hackert, who added eight rebounds to her scoring output, used an old-fashioned three-point play to tie the contest at 78 with four minutes to play; but an 11-4 Drury run over the course of the next three minutes left the Eagles in an 89-82 deficit with less than a minute to play.

Junior guard Autumn Miller got the Eagles going in the final minute with a plus-one three-point play to bring USI to within four with 45 seconds left. After a Drury turnover, Carpenter hit a running jumper in the paint to trim the Panthers' advantage to just two points with 31 seconds remaining.

USI, once again, forced another Drury turnover and, with 20 seconds remaining, Miller was fouled and went to the line, where she tied the contest at 89.

Miller finished with seven points and three assists, while senior forward/center Nicole Hazemi chipped in 16 points.

The Eagles had just six turnovers in the contest, but a 54-27 rebounding deficit hampered the Eagles all day. Drury, which coughed the ball up 16 times, turned 21 offensive rebounds into 29 second-chance points.

USI continues its four-game homestand Thursday at 5:15 p.m. when it hosts GLVC East Division foe Saint Joseph's College at the PAC.
