EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team had its seven-game winning streak stopped by the University of Evansville, 4-0, in the “Battle at the Braun” Wednesday night.  USI saw its record fall to 29-16 overall, while Evansville goes to 17-29.

The Aces took command early with a pair of runs in the first inning and put the game out of reach with two more in the sixth. Meanwhile, the Evansville hurlers controlled the USI hitters and limited the Screaming Eagles to six hits. USI freshman leftfielder Hamilton Carr (Evansville, Indiana) had half of the Eagle hits, going a perfect three-for-three on three singles.

On the mound, sophomore right-hander Craig Austin (Evansville, Indiana) suffered his first loss of the season. Austin (2-1) allowed two runs on one hit and three walks in two inning of work.

Sophomore right-hander Jay Hachmeister (Tennysen, Indiana) followed Austin to the mound. Hachmeister pitched well for three innings, but got into trouble in the sixth when he allowed two runs on four hits.

Senior left-hander Adam Carver (Arthur, Illinois) and senior right-hander Ben Lady (Louisville, Kentucky) finished the game for USI. Carver got USI out of the trouble in the sixth and pitched a scoreless seventh, before Lady set the Aces down in the eighth.

The Eagles concludes the GLVC schedule May 3-5 at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky. USI is still contention for a spot in the GLVC Tournament, which is scheduled for May 9-12, and needs at least two wins in the four-game series to secure a spot in the league's tournament.

USI also is in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional picture, despite falling to third in the region poll. The Eagles remain behind Ashland University and were overtaken by Saint Joseph's College.

In addition to Saint Joseph's and USI, the GLVC was represented by Drury University (fourth), a Quincy University (fifth), and Lewis University (seventh).  Grand Valley State University (sixth) and Wayne State University (eighth) rounded out the second poll of 2013.
