EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team was forced to settle for a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader split with defending Midwest Region champion Saint Joseph's College Saturday afternoon at the USI Softball Field. USI won game one, 3-1, but fell in the second game, 10-2.

USI (19-10, 9-7 GLVC) used a two-run first inning to propel it to the win in the opener. A one-out single by freshman Janna Green followed by a stolen base and a run-scoring double by sophomore MacKenzi Dorsam led to the Screaming Eagles' first tally.

Junior Kelsey Jankowski followed Dorsam with a run-scoring single two batters later to put the Eagles up, 2-0.

Dorsam, who reached base in both contests to extend her streak of reaching base safely to 19 games, had an RBI-single in the third frame to put USI on top, 3-0.

Sophomore Brooke Harmening breezed through the first 10 batters she faced before giving up her first hit of the contest. She allowed just three hits and one unearned run to pick up the victory.

Saint Joseph's (16-9, 6-9 GLVC), which took advantage of a lead-off error in the fifth inning of game one to score its only tally, wasted little time in game two as it capitalized on three USI errors and a pair of mental mistakes to score four times in the first inning.

USI answered with a two-out rally in the last part of the first inning. A two-out walk issued to Dorsam was followed by three straight hits, including a two-run single by Jankwoski.

The Pumas, however, capitalized on another error in the second inning as they scored two more runs to build a 6-2 advantage. They took advantage of a passed ball and a throwing error to score three times in the sixth inning before ending its scoring with a tally in the seventh.

Harmening (15-4), who extended her season-high hitting streak to eight games with a single in the first inning, was charged with the loss after giving up eight runs, just one earned, in 3.1 innings of work. She pitched the first inning, giving up the four unearned tallies, before coming back to pitch the final two-plus innings.

USI returns to action Sunday at noon when it hosts No. 1 University of Indianapolis in a GLVC doubleheader at the USI Softball Field. Fans are encouraged to join the Eagles by wearing pink to help raise cancer awareness.

UIndy (32-2, 14-0 GLVC) extended its winning streak to 25 with a doubleheader sweep of Kentucky Wesleyan College Saturday in Owensboro, Kentucky.
